Spring 2005 Elizabeth and Michael Thaibinh began exploring the possibility of opening a home for mothers in crisis. September 8, 2005 Wildflower Home accepted its first woman in Mae Tang in Northern Thailand. At the time Wildflower Home received support and shared a facility with Starfish Country Home School Foundation.
May 2006, after a significant growth in the number of women, Wildflower Home moved to a large apartment building in downtown Chiang Mai. However, an external evaluation in November showed that, though the program was effective in empowering women, the location was not ideal as many of the Wildflower Home residents were from rural settings. Hence, Wildflower Home began seeking a new place further out from the city to call home.
In February 2007 Wildflower Home entered an agreement to purchase land in the Bo Sang area and moved temporarily to the Research and Training Center for Religio-Cultural Community which lay adjacent to the Wildflower Home property.
By May 2007 Wildflower Home had begun the process of filing for foundation status under the name Wildflower Home Foundation and was totally independent of Starfish Country Home School Foundation. Financing of Wildflower Home began coming solely from individual donations.
September 2007 Wildflower Home had its Ground Breaking Ceremony and construction on the land formally began with women’s shelters.
By March 30, 2008 the first phase of construction was completed and Wildflower Home women moved to their new facility, a place where women would have the opportunity to learn new agricultural skills and have a new environmental sensitivity to the land.
July 2008 Wildflower Home gains its legal status as a Thai Foundation.
